The United States is not as free as it once was. Recent cases that have caught the public eye are the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Eric Garner’s death by choke-hold in New York and several other instances in the past years including that of a personal friend who was subject to Police brutality. With a growing amount of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAP) hitting the city streets and increasing militarization of law enforcement weapons, there is growing concern over our safety in the modern police state. Police fatalities are near record lows and justifiable police homicides are at record highs. Recent crime statistics show no significant increases, yet we have more instances of Police brutality and trigger happy cops than ever before.
Racially motivated Police harassment it rampant, and minority groups have an ongoing fear of their safety and well being. Racial profiling is widespread amongst police, other law enforcement agencies and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Unlawful Police searches are being conducted by use of aggressive force and recent policies such as New York’s stop and frisk policy clearly demonstrates racial profiling with only 11% of those stopped being White, 29% Latino and 56% Black.
The US has the highest incarceration rate and prison population in the entire world. Police do not face the same scrutiny or punishment as the civilian population which is a problem when there were 400 justifiable Police related homicides in 2013. National heroes such as Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden have been prosecuted for being a whistle-blower and sharing classified documents with the general population, which in a reasonable sense is a first amendment right.
There have been far too many breaches of US citizens first, fourth, fifth sixth and eighth amendment rights in recent times at the hands of law enforcement. It has gotten to the point where the majority of the population feels threatened rather than protected by a police presence. It has become a national problem and no improvement has been seen.
Keep in mind that your cell phone camera is very well your best friend when interacting with Police, contrary to what they want you to think it is perfectly legal in every state to record any interaction with the Police in public as long as it does not interfere with their duties.
Our constitution is in place to protect us and our way of life, we should be able to go about our lives as we see fit as long as it does not harm others. Police were originally called peace officers and their sole purpose was to maintain peace and order. Today they enforce laws that make the majority of the populace criminals, which serves as their foothold for abuse of power. Police are now armed to the teeth and all it takes is a small spark to set them off. From a survivalist mindset it is almost more important to be prepared for civil unrest than it is for natural disaster. It will not surprise anyone if the level of violence continues to increase, as there are fundamental flaws in our justice system and national identity that must change.
Police officers, much like the military and congress, take an oath to serve the people and protect the constitution from threats foreign and domestic. Now they utilize their oath to abuse power and act as puppets to the increasingly overbearing and corrupt national government. There are still good police officers out there who will stand up to corruption, sadly they are the ones who are skipped over for promotions or drummed out of service because they were not willing to play ball with the administration’s goal to increase the power and reach of the government. As the policing and surveillance of US Citizens increases, the ever present elitist class is taking over control of our country once again. It’s important that each person know their rights, and how there are good people protecting those rights. Vote those into power and educate your friends and family to do the same and help allow our Republic to live for generations to come and not fall to totalitarian rule.
It is likely that the situation will get much worse before any kind of fundamental reconstruction can take place and that is where the survivalist mentality fits in perfectly. Prepare for the worst. Cooper’s Colors of awareness commonly used in the concealed carry classes and circles are good to keep in mind at all times. The stages are as follows:
